The Shinra Republic National Guard is the branch of the service concerned with the homeland security of the Republic. Formerly consisting of only an Army component, it has recently been seperated into the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard, to allow a more balanced approach to homeland defense.
Army National GuardEdit
The Army National Guard is equipped and basically trained to the same standards of the Regular Army, however as they are the "one weekend a month, two weeks a year" type of units, their overall readiness and capability are not quite up to that of the Regular Army. By law, the National Guard cannot be deployed outside of the Republic itself, without special authority (very rarely granted).
Air National GuardEdit
The newest branch of the service, the Air National Guard is tasked with the defense of the Republic's air space, in cooperation with the Air Force. While not fully active duty, the responsibility and demands of maintaining the aircraft and a defense posture requires more than the typical "one weekend a month, two weeks a year" service.
